The International Wine & Food Society is the world's oldest and most renowned gastronomic society. It was founded in 1933 by André L. Simon CBE, Legion d'Honneur, who was a dedicated and knowledgeable gourmet and a superb connoisseur of fine wines. Its key purpose is the promotion of a greater understanding and pleasure in good food, good wine and good company. There are more than 7,500 members, from all walks of life, in 140 branches and 40 countries throughout the world.
The International Wine & Food Society Helsinki Branch was founded on the 6th of June 1987 at Restaurant Särkänlinna, on a museum fortress island outside Helsinki. Thirteen founding members were present, of which ten are still active within the Branch. Today, there are about 110 members in the Branch.
